How to Verify Agent Citations

Probatum is built on a "Trust Foundation." This guide explains how to inspect, verify, and audit the sources behind every AI-generated answer.

1Identify the Citation

Every claim made by the Agent is followed by a bracketed number, like[1]. This is not a hallucination; it is a direct link to a chunk of text in your database.

"The password policy requires a minimum length of 12 characters [1] and rotation every 90 days [2]."

2Inspect the Source

Click on the Sources tab below the chat response. You will see a list of numbered cards corresponding to the citations.

3Verify Context

Each source card displays:

  • Document Name: The original file (e.g., "Access_Policy_2024.pdf").
  • Exact Text: The precise snippet used by the AI.
  • Similarity Score: How closely this text matched your question.

Tip: If a citation seems wrong, check the similarity score. Scores below 0.7 may indicate weak relevance.

Why this matters for Audits

Auditors need proof, not opinions. By verifying citations, you transform AI-generated text into verifiable audit evidence. You can copy the citation snippet directly into your SOC 2 or ISO 27001 report.
